Memories from the Belarusian Trail

Our Warszawa 223 and Volvo 240 covered approximately one thousand kilometers across Belarus! Almost half of the trip was spent driving in the rain, and the windshield wipers started acting up as early as Białystok. However, that is nothing for real "heroes." Belarus is a country so very close to us. We share a common history, as well as shared national bards, most notably Adam Mickiewicz. We also share common heroes, such as Tadeusz Kościuszko and many others. Yet, in our Polish mindset, a different image of this country has taken root. People say it is a dangerous place, foreign to our culture. In reality, it is full of helpful and friendly people. We warmly recommend the agritourism guesthouses where we stayed twice. It is affordable, you can sample traditional Belarusian cuisine, and visit a banya. The city center of Brest also welcomed us with affordable prices, where we rented an apartment. In Minsk, things were slightly different. Accommodation and food are more expensive, and the meals no longer carry the authentic taste of Belarus that we managed to savor in smaller towns. Nevertheless, Belarus is well worth visiting, as I don't know anyone who has been there and regretted it.
